Southside Football Club welcomed 150 teams to its 9th Football Festival and
Tournament at Bournside sports field on 9th &10th May 2009. The sun
shone, although it was a little breezy which was a challenge for
keeping gazebos securely anchored. From the feedback we got we
believe that players enjoyed their football and that
spectators and coaches appreciated and applauded good play and
skill from the opposition, as well as from
their own team. Thank you to everyone who patiently waited
in traffic queues while we coped with the logisitics of getting
cars on and off site.
A tournament
of this size required the support of many people. We would like to thank our
programme sponsor, Orchard Press, and other sponsors; Cotswold Granite, Just Carpentry
and Locks, Russell Milton Football Coaching and Up Hatherley Parish Council for
their financial support. Also, a big thank you to all Southside team coaches,
players and parents who helped out over the weekend with the numerous ‘tournament
jobs’. Finally, our huge appreciation and thanks to a group of largely young
and energetic referees, without whom this tournament would not have run.

Review of Last Year's Tournament May '08
Our
8th Annual tournament
was held in May
'08 at Bournside School. Previously we had always run the tournament as
a 1 day event, however this time we changed the format and ran it
over two
days to give more teams the opportunity to play. Once again we were
extremely
lucky with the weather.
A football tournament
always brings out the competitive spirit in players and this one was no
different, so we were pleased that spectators and managers alike
appreciated and applauded the endeavours of all the sides that took
part.
Our thanks go to all the helpers, officials and
sponsors who made the tournament such a success and gave all the
players the
opportunity to do what they most enjoy doing which is playing football.
The
sportsmanship shown by all players was a credit to their clubs.
A special note of thanks goes to the following individuals and
